Note-worthy talents Local musicians share their passions, talents with community

East Polk County is home to a variety of musicians and vocalists who not only provide their own talents to the county's rich artistic tapestry, but pass on those talents and skills to others by offering lessons. Three such talented people are the highlight of this section on East Polk County.
Brent Booher is a longtime resident of East Polk County who honed a teenage passion for music into a career. He is a member of local musical groups, he teaches lessons and he created his own band so his teenage son can play with him.
If an East Polk County student chooses to play a strings instrument, there is a good chance he or she will at some time be taught by Winter Haven resident Michael Lawson. The strings player teaches lessons at Winter Haven High School, Lake Region High School and Denison Middle School. He also teaches private lessons. When he isn't passing on his talents to a younger generation, he often can be found performing at local events with one of his three musical groups.
Tracy Powell is a Bartow resident who sings gospel music. Powell's love of music has led to her singing with well-known performers and has allowed her to record her own albums. In addition to her career as a performer, Powell teaches vocal lessons.
